BiiND began with a simple idea of mashing up age-old ways to learn with the emerging technology of VR. Covid forced us to meet in a new way. We found a pretty basic virtual conference room to be our office and ripped the roof off (because we could). It was our first glimpse of how expansive and unlimited the metaverse could be. And so our journey began.

We identified four foundational beliefs about what people want and need. People want easy, so our tech could not be complicated. People desire knowledge and learning, so we use co-present and spatial learning. People need people, so we give people a way to BiiND with others. People like authentication, so we created ways for people to be acknowledged on our platform. These beliefs guide our work today.

We knew the science behind the power of spatial and co-present learning, and wanted a way to both experience and share it first hand. We built an example of how people can learn together by memorizing a scripture after just a few minutes. Immersed in an environment full of funky and outlandish animated models the scripture became unforgettable. This would begin a story that we did not fully envision and one that is still being written to this day.

Our first metaverse office was cool but we wanted more. We experienced the power of what it means to be 'co-present' with others and what it was like to create together. We could now work in any environment we wanted, so we ditched the conference room and built BiiND iiSLAND. It became our new daily work space.

On BiiND iiSLAND we ate our own dog food and built BiiND from within BiiND. We used different devices (phones, tablets, PC’s, VR goggles). We experimented with various web browsers. We shared our screens and cameras to access and view together all of the content of the existing web, sharing pics, and dropping in 3D models.

It wasn't all work. Working like this was not without its share of fun (and funny) things that happened as a result of creative people being able to do things that have never been done before. Calling in sick or leaving for a lunch break was as easy as leaving a note on your 'office chair'. Although we each worked from home without physically being present with one another, in many ways, we felt more connected than if we had been in-person.

The word 'metaverse' was barely heard, but the church was interested in exploring how this new thing could be used in their mission. We knew from our work building Unforgettable Scriptures that people needed a place to access the metaverse. Unfortunately, there was no place to do it. So, we had to build from the ground up a Metaverse Presence for people and organizations.

We received our inspiration from bees. Bees use a series of hexagonal cells to build their hives. The BiiND HiiVE was born giving people that place that could easily expand and grow.

The HiiVE had to be practical. We built many iterations of the HiiVE by hand to experiment with how people might use them. We are now putting the finishing touches on the ability to automate the creation of the HiiVE. Our team's focus was to make it EASY for people, because people want easy.

This realization took us down a path to build the web3 and defi areas of the HiiVE, including the ability to sign in with a wallet and a place to build and display Unforgettable NFT’s. We also developed a series of NFT drops, and a road map for further web3 and defi uses including a BiiND token and marketplace. This capability of the HiiVE is more a question of when, not if.

Whatever the metaverse becomes, we believe that it must be built on the ubiquity of the existing web. Today, people have so much data with no easy way to remember where it is. The power of spatial memory allows users to visually find, archive, and share information that matters to them. In the ARCHiiVE cluster users can do all of that. Eventually users will be able to own, operate, access, and store their HiiVE separate from any centralized cloud provider.

Myspace existed to allow people to participate in the web. It provided a personal presence and made the web practical for users. Today the metaverse is in a similar state. People need their own place to experience and use the next version of the web. BiiND enables our users to create that place, complete with their own metaverse address.
